Let me be your inside tour guide to Wellington! I’m Jess, a Psychology, Criminology and Education student here in New Zealand’s capital city - so are you ready for some local education?

First, let's get the lingo locked down; Wellingtonians share their love for the city, which is often nicknamed Welly/Wellywood or Windy Wellington. Now don't let the wind scare you off as it's booming with creativity and fuelled with amazing food, coffee and nightlife, which per capita is more than NYC! There is nothing like a true local experience when visiting a new place, so welcome to Wellington where there is something special for everyone!

If you are a social person like me, you'll love Wellington as there are so many walks of life. Welly is buzzing with student life in particular as it's home to two universities: Victoria and Massey. Wellingtonians oozes culture and food; you’ll find bohemian vibes down classic Cuba street, and events happening every weekend!

A few of the most notable events include Welly On A Plate during winter, which is a culinary competition of themed dishes and cocktails that locals vote on. The World of Wearable Art, also known as WOW (usually in September), is a renowned international design competition. CubaDupa (during March) is a family-friendly festival of creativity that takes over the city with art installations, live performances and workshops. Jim Beam Homegrown comes to Wellington for the Summer - boogie until the sun goes down (or rises) with local New Zealand talent! Check out my highly-recommended Wellington events here.
